Underwater traction
Underwater spine traction is one of the most effective therapies which is used to treat musculoskeletal system; and this method is used in Russia for more than fifty years. Traditionally there are dry and underwater spine tractions. The traction in the water relaxes all the muscles and ligaments in the spine. The water helps to the deep muscles in human body to relax , because some of them can’t do it on their own.
During the procedure the muscles relax, which creates the negative pressure in the intervertebral discs , thereby stretching occurs with minimal effort. The space of 1-4mm between the discs fulfills with liquids. These liquids nourish the discs, stabilize the blood circulation and microcirculation; thus it kills the pain.
It was clinically proved that underwater spine traction is effective for discogenic radiculitis, early development of spondylitis and its deformations.
The procedure also can be taken in the mineral water (radon, sodium, hydrogen sulfide, turpentine), which increase the overall effect.
The Indications for underwater spine traction:
- Herniated disc lumbodynia with neurological manifestations
- sciatica with static-dynamic disturbances in the form of restriction of motion in the spine
- Scoliosis
- Kyphoscoliosis
- Flattening of the lumbar lordosis
- Radicular compression
- Compression radiculopathy
- The initial manifestations of spondylitis
- Spondylosis deformations
- The acute stage of the disease with a pain syndrome
- Sequestered disc herniation (especially when compression of the cauda equina)
- Instability of the spine
- Violation of the spinal circulation
- Inflammatory spinal syndromes (arachnoiditis, scar-adhesive epidurit)
- Individual poor tolerance traction (subjectively noted increased pain)
- Fractures of the spine
- Condition after laminectomies
- Osteoporosis
- Age over 60th
- Weight over 100 kg
- Tumors of the spine and spinal cord, the tuberculosis spondylitis, predisposition to bleeding from the shells, acute inflammation, cardiopulmonary decompensation, and some skin diseases.
